Relaxation with a side of guilt
It’s the first day of 2021, and I woke up this morning feeling good - I played a game of tennis and went on a nice walk with my partner, but then a few hours later I found myself feeling absolutely exhausted, and not feeling 100% itself. I spent a lot of the day just relaxing, watching shows, and eating snacks.
It also happens to be the start of 2022 and a negative thought popped up. The thought was that it’s Jan. 1 and the way I’m spending it is setting the tone for the rest of the year. I allllmost started feeling guilty for having a slow day, but before I allowed myself to go down the route of criticizing myself, I decided to interfere with the negative thoughts and swap them with more positive empowering thoughts. These are the empowering thoughts that came into my mind without having to put much energy into it.
I’m so excited to notice that choosing more positive empowering thoughts instead of allowing negative thoughts to infiltrate my mind is becoming easier and more automatic overtime. It’s proof that coaching works.
The thoughts I chose to focus on instead were…
Jan 1 is just a human-created concept designed to help us keep track of time and the fact that it’s Jan. 1 doesn’t actually hold any significance in the grand scheme of things.
Maybe my “slow” day is actually a sign of me taking time to listen to myself, my needs, and taking time to consciously relax.
There is a lot of noise on Instagram about starting the New Year off right, if I go online and it makes me feel guilt/shame vs. enjoyment, it’s a sign to switch off the app.
It doesn’t matter what day of the year it is, it is never too late or too early to reset or try again.
I don’t have to be producing or accomplishing things to feel worthy. Being kind and honouring my own needs is an accomplishment for me in itself.
Hope you all have a beautiful day! x
